Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have operated as an Employee-Owned Corporation for over 17 years. Our predecessor company was started over 60 years ago.
What is your primary product or service?
Castings, aluminum, brass and bronze. We also provide foundry tooling design and fabrication services.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My Grandfather worked as a foundryman. I studied foundry practices at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University), gaining a degree in Industrial Engineering as a co-op student. After completing an MBA degree, I have managed several manufacturing plants. In the early 1990's I became manager of a foundry manufacturing unit for General Housewares. We were casting iron and aluminum there. I moved to Florida in 1997, to West Coast Castings.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There are not very many independent foundries in Florida. We are different because we have a special combination of competencies. We can use computer-assisted-design (CAD), computer-assisted-manufacturing (CAM), as well as traditional pattern-making practices. Greensand molding and airset (no bake) techniques are available. We can provide assistance in designing nonferrous metal parts, and bring the concept on through the tooling stages, and into production -- a "one-stop-shop". We can provide heat treatment of castings and weldments, plus machining services.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Our single main plant is in Bradenton, Manatee County. We have adequate capacity in our physical plant, to readily increase production as needed. We are always "on the look-out" for new business opportunities.
Provide detailed directions to your location
44th Ave East is the eastern extension of Cortez Road. Watch for the tall cell phone tower, which stands next to our lane -- between USA Fence, and Callaghan Enterprises.
What type of payments do you accept?
Our business is generally conducted as wholesale transactions. Once we establish good business relations with a reapeating customer, we frequently provide "30 day net" terms, and accept company and individual checks, or ACH transfers.
Which areas do you service?
We serve many industry segments, mainly in the Southeast USA.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) owns nearly 100% of the shares of our company. Daily operations are managed by Ted Boerger, President, and Susan Boerger, Vice-President.
What are your hours of operation?
Foudry production operates from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, weekdays. Office hours are fro 8:00 am to 5: pm weekdays.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
This casting looks like billet!!
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
He who would be leader must be servant of all.
